innersense and old st cafe exhibitions

A sideways look at portraiture, this series explores the familiar form of a plastic toy doll. Using cropping and deliberate blurring of the images I am suggesting an ambiguity and an unnerving humanisation of the inanimate object. Although initially inspired by pregnancy, the photographs have evolved into an examination of the sinister, freakish nature of toys.
I enjoy the staged, dramatic effect created by use of both tungsten and natural light and am aiming to evoke a colour scheme perhaps more reminiscent of 1950’s Americana than the actual, unknown origins of this found object.

Selected artists were asked for their interpretation of the suggested notion of 'inner sense'.

This first series explores a sideways look at portraiture in focussing on the subject's possessions rather than the subject themselves.
